Wesley's Notes for John four:fourteen
4:fourteen Will never thirst - Will never (provided he go along to drink thereof) exist miserable, dissatisfied, without refreshment. If e'er that thirst returns, it volition be the fault of the man, not the water. Merely the water that I shall give him - The spirit of organized religion working by beloved, shall become in him - An inward living principle, a fountain - Not barely a well, which is presently exhausted, springing up into everlasting life - Which is a confluence, or rather an ocean of streams arising from this fountain.
People's Bible Notes for John four:fourteen
Joh 4:fourteen Whosoever drinketh of the water I shall requite him shall never thirst. The water of which he speaks is a gift which he gives to humanity. It is not given to him, but is his own gift. His linguistic communication is always that of the Son of God. He says, "I am the life" (Joh 11:25 14:6); "Come to me, ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give yous rest" (Mt eleven:28); "I am the breadstuff of life" (Joh half-dozen:35,48); "He that believeth on me shall never thirst" (Joh 6:35).
